Matthew has always been interested in taking time off to travel. I wasn’t so sure. I love my home and sense of place. But earlier this year, in the midst of career changes and pondering what would come next for us in 2024, one of us proposed it (and we can’t remember who). We agreed the timing was perfect: wrap up our wonderful lives in California, take time to travel, and settle in the midwest to be closer to family.
Our departure is right around the corner. We’ve started packing up our apartment and gearing up for a cross-country road trip from San Francisco to Seattle to Chicago, with stops along the way. We’ll unload everything we own with Matthew’s parents (thank you, David and Melissa) and then we set off.
It’s hitting us in different ways, at different times. I feel a little pang when dinner with friends comes to an end and I’m not sure how to say goodbye, and I feel giddy thinking about all of the brand new experiences we will have. Matthew feels like he could burst at the seams when he puts the finishing touches on our travel plans.
He’s booking the adventure of a lifetime for us that spans Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and Singapore.
We want to share photos, thoughts, and memories; to keep our loved ones informed on this journey. We figured that the best way to do that is with a newsletter. When there’s something new and interesting to share, you can count on us to update you. If you’re interested in these shares, subscribe below.
In the meantime, if you have any recommendations for our travels - we would love to hear them.
Sending love from the Bay,
Jenna & Matthew
